“Listening into Waterways”, the first flotation (a multi-day, itinerant field journey) of the fifth cycle of TBA21–Academy’s curatorial fellowship, The Current: Ancestral Ocean, will take place from August 29 to September 6 in Kenya: Nairobi and Lamu.

Through porous transmissions of cultural knowledge, communal storytelling, and environmental action, this flotation will open communal exchanges with artists and cultural organizers Shiraz Bayjoo and Sana Ginwalla, writer Priya Basil, literature and cinema scholar Parisa Vaziri, and musician-songwriter Batila, alongside local collaborators.

The research journey will culminate in a closing event of performance, conversation, and music at the Kamene Cultural Practice and Research Space in Nairobi on September 5, 2026.
