Mindscapes was an international cultural programme of the Wellcome Trust. It aimed to support a transformation in how we understand, address and talk about mental health.
Mindscapes brought together culture, communities, policy and research.
Priya Basil was Mindscapes' international writer-in-residence from 2021 to 2023. As part of her residency, she traveled to many places, including Kenya, Rwanda, Namibia, Chile, Japan, Aotearoa/New Zealand and Australia, seeking out a range of diverse, surprising and specific perspectives and understandings of ‘mental health’, both contemporary and historic.
In 2024, Priya's collaboration with Wellcome continued. She was Writer in Residence for Canopy, Wellcome's Climate and Health cultural programme, which culminated in a publication and series of events for Climate Week NYC 2024.
Priya is now working on a book that draws on her journeys and research.
